World largest cricket ground is under construction in Ahmedabad

The Motera stadium was first constructed in the year 1982, with a seating capacity of 49,000. In this stadium, the first Test match took place between India and West Indies in the year 1983. Meanwhile, the Melbourne Cricket Stadium holds a seating potency of 90,000 which was established in the year 1853.

Before being restored, The Motera stadium had hosted almost 23 One-Day Internationals till December 2011. The historical events that took place in this stadium are the former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar completed 10,000 runs in Test cricket. Among other remarkable events, cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar had scored his first Test Match double-hundred against New Zealand.

The Motera Stadium is recently under construction to make it the world’s largest stadium. In a Tweet, the Vice –President Parimal Nathwani of Gujarat Cricket Association posted the picture of the stadium under construction. He mentioned that this is one of the dream projects and this stadium will be larger than the MCG.  He also said that once the construction of GCA’s dream stadium completes it will become a matter of pride for the entire nation.

When this new stadium will come up, Gujarat will have a record number of people. In the last year October, the state has unveiled the world’s largest statue, 182-metre Statue of Unity, which now attracts around 30,000 people every day.
